Willamette Valley Saluki Club

Salukis have been a part of my entire life. My parents brought home their first Saluki shortly after I was born. I’ve been told I learned to walk hanging onto the neck of a Saluki, and this same Saluki, Arjmand, found my blankets and food crumbs very appealing. Go figure.

From those first steps with a Saluki at my side, my love for the breed has blossomed, and a Saluki is often still at my side. I can’t imagine it any other way. From as soon as I could safely hold the lead of a Saluki, I was known to drag them all over the property. Jamie was a very willing sidekick. I showed her in Peewee Junior Handling classes at the Club’s early fun matches.

Once I was old enough to show at AKC events, Jamie’s daughter Aanisah became my new partner in crime. I showed in Juniors at Club matches and early WVSC Specialties, but I wasn’t into it enough to pursue a Juniors career, if you will. It was showing in conformation classes that I enjoyed. I think I wasn’t interested in the “kid classes” – that’s how I perceived them at the time. I wanted to show with the adults.

Showing Salukis is now a major part of my lifestyle. My mom, Wanda, and I can be found at most Pacific Northwest shows, and my husband, Jesse, can even be found ringside from time to time. You can see our Salukis at www.SirianniAcres.com.

I’ve been the WVSC Newsletter editor since 1992. This is a job I tremendously enjoy even if it can be very time consuming. In 2000, I launched the Club’s first Web site. At the time, I was unable to keep it properly updated. Now in 2005, I’m taking a second crack at it. I certainly hope for better success this time around.
